The African Jacana

The African jacana is a bird that can almost make you believe it is walking on water. Its long toes help it walk across floating leaves without sinking. But what amazes me most is how the male cares for the chicks after they are born. He incubates the eggs and helps raise the young. I wanted to celebrate this special bird through my painting as part of the Uganda Postage series. As you look at this artwork, I hope it reminds you that sometimes the most surprising things are found in the way we care for one another.
