Guinea fowl are rarely quiet. When one senses something, it raises the alarm, and within moments the whole flock knows. One voice becomes many. Painting this guinea fowl taught me something similar. At first I was afraid to begin, worried one wrong mark would ruin it. But once I started, one stroke led to another, and I grew more confident. I learned that you don't become confident before you begin, you become confident because you begin. Like the guinea fowl, we're not meant to navigate everything alone. Sometimes it just takes one voice, one step, one brave beginning to get things moving. This artwork is part of the Uganda Postage Paintings series, celebrating Uganda's rich and remarkable wildlife.
