One thing I admire about fish is how naturally they move through water. They can swim deep and stay underwater in a way that feels almost impossible to us. Uganda is home to many kinds of fish, but tilapia is one of the most familiar. It is part of our food, our lakes, and our everyday lives. That is why I chose to paint the tilapia as part of the Uganda Heritage collection. I wanted to celebrate something simple that is also deeply connected to who we are. As you look at this painting, I hope it reminds you that sometimes the things closest to us are the ones that tell the most important stories about where we come from.
