The African savanna elephant is the largest land animal, found across Uganda’s national parks.

Elephants are herbivores, consuming up to 150 kg of vegetation daily. They live in structured social groups led by a matriarch, whose memory guides migration and survival.

They communicate using infrasonic sounds that travel long distances through the ground.
What is often overlooked is their advanced emotional intelligence; they recognise themselves in mirrors, show compassion, and return to the bones of deceased herd members, demonstrating long-term memory and grief.

Their trunk is a highly versatile tool used for breathing, feeding, and communication.
