The Plains Zebra is commonly found in Uganda’s grasslands, such as Lake Mburo National Park.

Zebras are herbivores that graze alongside other species and live in family groups called harems. Their black-and-white stripes are unique to each individual.

They use a cooperative vigilance system to detect predators and defend themselves with powerful kicks. A lesser-known characteristic is that their stripes create optical illusions that confuse predators and biting insects, while also helping zebras recognise each other within a herd.
